An interesting concept in urban planning, La Defense is a futuristic area of sleek modern skyscrapers, which are home to offices, shopping and residential living and transportation.  The center-piece of the area is the stark Grand Arch, which is said to be large enough that Notre Dame would fit under it. I visited on a rather blustery gray day and found the area to feel cold with the huge open center space intimidating, rather than grand. Perhaps it was just the weather....
